What is a circuit breaker

What exactly is a circuit breaker?

A circuit breaker is an electric device that detects an electrical fault, such as an overload or a short, and blocks the current to avoid a fire or damage to your home’s wiring. Circuit breakers, which are enclosed within a breaker box, have recently supplanted conventional fuses. While the wire included within a fuse burns out, disconnecting the electricity, a circuit breaker switches off.

After resolving the issue that produced the overload or short, the circuit breaker can be switched on to restore power. A burnt fuse would require replacement.

What Triggers a Circuit Breaker?
Every circuit breaker in the circuit breaker box balances a single circuit’s electrical current. When a circuit breaker identifies an electrical overload or short, it will shut down to prevent a fire or circuit damage. A circuit breaker trip can be caused by a number of factors.

A circuit breaker may trip if several electronic devices are turned on at the same time. If a circuit breaker trips, you can try to turn it on if there is no visible damage.

If you restart a circuit breaker and it still trips, contact a qualified electrician to determine the cause of the problem. The breaker may be faulty and must be replaced. Moreover, just because a breaker trips repeatedly does not necessarily indicate that it is defective. It might be triggered by another form of electrical issue.

Should I replace a circuit breaker on my own?
Changing an outdated circuit breaker is a job best left to a qualified electrician and should be done with the power turned off. This may need permission, and electrical standards must be rigorously followed to ensure the security of your house and family.

Circuit Breaker Replacement

An electrician will check the circuit & check the breaker prior to changing. That will help him to confirm that it is the only one causing the issue. They will then turn off the power to the fuse box and replace the necessary breaker.
